Egypt's Minister of Culture, Ahmed Hanno, Governor of Alexandria Ahmed Khaled, and Bibliotheca Alexandrina Director Ahmed Zaid inaugurated the 19th edition of the Bibliotheca Alexandrina International Book Fair. Organized in collaboration with the General Egyptian Book Organization and the Egyptian and Arab Publishers Unions, the fair will run from July 15 to 28.
Minister Hanno highlighted the library's role as a hub of knowledge and culture, fostering dialogue between civilizations and preserving cultural content. He noted the fair's significant cultural impact, attracting global publishers, intellectuals, and a knowledge-seeking public, thereby enhancing Alexandria's intellectual stature.
This event bridges Egyptian culture with Arab and international traditions, reinforcing Egypt’s cultural leadership. The fair features a pavilion by the Egyptian General Book Organization, showcasing its rich production and contributions from various Ministry of Culture sectors.
Continuing their collaboration, the Ministry of Culture and Bibliotheca Alexandrina will host the “Annual Conference of the Heritage Research Center” in September, celebrating Alexandria’s heritage.
Governor Khaled emphasized the fair's role as a cultural window for Alexandria's residents, particularly the youth. Director Zaid detailed the fair's extensive programming, with 160 events organized by 77 publishing houses and 600 guests from Egypt and abroad. The fair will also launch the "Alexandria Reading Competition in Egypt," honoring a hundred winners and introduce the "Bibliotheca Alexandrina World Prize for Researchers in Various Sciences.
